How to Find Your Local Section 8 Public Housing Authority (PHA)

By Hal Roark

If you are thinking of getting into Section 8 Landlording (and you should!), you will need to know where your local PHA is and how to contact them.

You will need to contact your local PHA for a variety of documents: the “getting started” landlording package, the rent rates your local PHA will pay for an apartment, the paperwork needed to get your property on their list, etc.

Finding your PHA is easier now than it used to be, thanks to the internet.

For example, when I go through the steps above, and click on Louisiana, and then New Orleans, I get the following…

Note: this is still not the local PHA. This is the regional HUD office for your area. That’s not what you want. You want the office overseeing the Housing Choice Voucher Program (new name for Section 8 program).

Call the phone number of the office closest to you, and tell them you are a landlord (or prospective landlord) who wants to know the contact information for your local PHA.
They will give you that information, and point you in the right direction.

Good luck!
