Thanks.  I've certainly made it quite clear throughout this site I AM a newbie.  I guess I need to study about REI more and put down all my physics degree crap I'm slogged with every day.   :D

Sometime a good solid advice can be illegal.

Truthfully, for you and for me, most people here aren't even willing to share their "secret" or rather, what they know. I'll be the first to say it, the people here giving advice are doing it for the ego stroke. Sure they know a lot, but for superiority sakes.

That's why I have taken part of my time to put off that, and go for something with real values.

John T. Reed follows the law, his competitor couldn't put him down, he has put his competitor down, many of them doing business unethically or unmorally. I don't buy any course or seminars or tapes, just books, but I can easily detect through the books who is for real and who is not. Most aren't for real.

So yes, ignore him if you want, but be careful.

Swirlaze, your comment about people here giving advice only to stroke their ego's is not only insulting to them, but I personally thing it borders on bitterness on your part. I am a newer investor, and the help and advice provided here is basically priceless in my opinion. Maybe you should read a little closer to the advice, instead of thinking it is only given for them to feel superior. They do it to HELP people, and do not ask for anything in return. I guarantee, the day I become successful, I will do the same unselfish thing that the other experienced posters do, which is to try to help others.

There are some excellent posts made by the experienced investors, and while I don't agree with every one of them, I certainly am appreciative of all the time they take to help.....WITHOUT asking for anything in return. You should change your attitude from negative to positive, that will help more than anything you could possibly read. And the reason I know about attitudes is because I looked in the mirror and found the reason I never succeeded at anything. I am on my way now.

As for John Reed....his credibility is very low. How can he give an unbiased opinion of his competition? The answer...he CAN'T. It's like coke analyzing and commenting on pepsi. He sells cbooks and courses, so he will put down other books and course in a lame attempt to increases his own business.

Best of luck to you

P.S. The best post ever made in here was the one about excuses by Ted Jr. He is one of the many great people in here who help others. There are too many to name them all, but I am very appreciative of every single person in here who offers to help others.

Swirlaze,

So what are these very few books you have managed to weed out that are real?

Very good post Bob. I'm not really sure why Swirlaze is making such negative comments about this forum.  If you really feel that way about this forum why would you be posting on it? Oh well. I'm not a rookie, but I'm not an expert. I just finished my first two deals in the last six months. One rehab, and one wholesale deal. The wholesale was with a vacant property, but I was anticipating possible future deals with occupied properties. I wanted to see other people's opinions and experiences about wholesaling occupieds. Please, no "ego stroking".

NDFan: If you want to learn a good quality RE education I suggest looking up RE books on Amazon.com. Check out the reviews and comments for each book, and you'll find the best ones. After some good quality books, you can move on to courses. You can buy them right here at REIClub. I suggest looking at their reviews here:

http://www.realestatecoursereviews.com/

PS - If you look up John Reed's reviews on the above website you'll see that he has a 3 out of 5 star rating from 85 reviews. Not that good!

Swirlaze, you may not have mentioned names when you talked about posters only helping to feel "superior" or to "stroke their ego's", but you used the word "most posters", which more or less say that the majority on here are like that. I strongly disagree with that. The high majority are doing this for unselfish reasons...to help others. You should not generalize like that, because....even though you may not have meant it....you came across as very insulting to the posters who help people.

I also am one who would never consider John Reed as being honest. Not even close. I find his "reviews" to be extremely biased and short sighted. He has the credibility of my ex, in my opinion.

One more thjing Swirlaze...not meaning to sound critical, but I have seen you post that you have never done a deal....so how can you possibly criticize those who are doing deals? And how can you tell someone that what they do is wrong?

I don't believe you are positive and optimistic as you claim. Maybe you are, but your posts say otherwise. I'm sure you are just frustrated, and take it from someone who has been there...it is all in your attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to be successful. I sat here, learned a lot, and never accomplished anything. I made excuses....had some legit health issues, but too many excuses when I had chances. Now, I am just going to get off my chair and get going when I get home in 3-4 weeks. Action leads to success. My attitude was garbage...negative, pass the buck, no accountability, no plan, no goals, and being lazy. I lost the negative attitude. Now "excuses" are just problems and/or obstacles...and they can be solved with hard work and thought.

I really believe you are just a bit frustrated, and it leads to a negative attitude. I know from my own experiences. I always had excuses...now, I know there is only one way I will fail, and that is the person I see in the mirror every day.

Best of everything to you, and as Zig Ziglar says, "See you at the top".

Regards, Tony

By the way, regarding books, John $Cash$ Locke recommended a book about sales, called "Secrets Of Closing The Sale" by Zig Ziglar. I have not read the whole book, but the parts I have read is excellent.

I must say that out of anyone on this board, I for one take REI VERY seriously and am baffled how anyone could see it in any other light.  I have been an airline pilot for many years now.  I've been in many a situation having to shoot an ILS approach to minimums at night while the wind and rain are deafening all by hand because the autopilot is inopperative.....and I find REI to seem MUCH harder than that.  I'd say if we are on this board the majority of us are pretty darn serious.
Swirlaze, maybe being 18 has something to do with it but please tone down the rhetoric.  I too was bitter at 18 over some things so age has nothing to do with it.  Anyway, take this for whats its worth.

I'm not really sure how this thread go so off topic. I was hoping to see other investor's opinions and experiences about a particluar situtaion in RE investing. I wasn't expecting a whole thread about RE ethics and morals. Oh well.

Bob, you sound like a very motivated person. NDFan, it's good to see you're taking REI very seriously, and I hope you find the education you are seeking. Swilaze, you're young, but you obvisouly have eneergy and ambition.

I wish all of you good fortunes with your first deals and/or any future deals. As for the rest of this thread, I'm only going to be concerned with the topic at hand. I know where my ethics and morals stand.

Happy Investing!
