I hesitated to read this book because it was hyped to the moon and I expected it to be a bunch of rehashed mishmash of things I already read...

I was wrong!

A good read and a good way to pick up some great nuggets on how to propel ourselves to ever higher levels of success. Highly recommended!
Go buy a few copies, and give some away to your family and clients.

They'll thank you for it...

Best,

Danny Welsh

P.S. I'm new to the forum here and not sure whether there is a better category for this post but I love recommending books so I hope this is the correct thread!

Even in such technical lines as engineering, about 15% of one's financial success is due one's technical knowledge and about 85% is due to skill in human engineering, to personality and the ability to lead people.

Here we go again...

hiscompany:  I absolutely love The Secret.  I'm a huge believer in the law of attraction.  Here's the thing though, I'm also a huge believer in reality and the things we face everyday.  I know that if you do the work, stay positive (as much as possible), and push push push to make something happen it will.

Mike:  1 million percent right.  THERE IS NO SECRET TO REAL ESTATE!!  Get out there and work your ass off!!  There's the closest thing to a "secret" you'll get.  BUT...

In my opinion, if you take the attitude of The Secret on, plus propertymanagers attitude of there is no secret... your golden!  Does that make sense?

Your not going to get rich sitting at home every day thinking your going to get rich, unless of course you inherit it.  Watching Oprah and eating Bon Bons is not going to do it, you need to get your ass out there and make it happen, and projecting positive thoughts out into the world only works with massive action.  There, I'm done.   biggrin

The book is junk and caters to the notion that we are entitled to success and material items.  I agree with the other realists on the forum, you are rewarded for your hard work.

Who actually bought into the idea of the secret?  besides its promoters who have a bucket load on the line...

I wish there were secrets to this game... Something yet done... Some magical way of investing that if you learn it it will be like finding the pot of gold under the rainbow. And the rainbows would be everywhere. The reality is you have to go do what ever it is you want to accomplish... Get up and do it...

I cant remember the last time , or for that matter the first time, I was rewarded for doing apsolutely nothing.  If and when that happens that will be my little secret... Sorry for not sharing..

The Secret is ok... it has deeper meaning and it targets the absolute general public not those with deep understanding of business. It attempts to bring to surface the fact that we fail because we don't believe in ourselves or we are too negative or pessimistic and it attempts to show people that you need to think positive and surround yourself with such people.

There are better books out there, the Secret was done by some of the best info marketers so they marketed it well. The content is still good for those who were never exposed to it.

Do you guys understand that "The Secret" movie, dvds, etc have NOTHING to do with a SECRET in business or real estate??  It's an attitude thing.  It's a way of thinking.  It's not something that says HEY MICHAEL QUARLES, all you have to do is sit around all day and think positive and you will get rich! If you buy into that then I agree, your a sucker.  And an idiot.

I'm going to do what I need to do to become wealthy PERIOD, that's what I do, BUT with a more positive outlook because of things like the Secret, people like Tony  Robbins, stuff like that.  I enjoy it... but it's not for everyone.

There is a secret.  If it was not a secret then everybody woud be rich.

You know that in The Bible Jesus said (out of hiw own mouth) "the poor will always be with us".I am talking about the Jesus that saved the whole world not the Jesus that mows my lawn.  That means that no matter how hard you try to help people get out of the rut, you will not be able to.  You can give them the food but you can't make them eat.  That is the secret.

Clearly I was making a suggestion that has proven helpful in my business...the idea I think I was "promoting" was not go read the Secret so much as give value-based gifts to those in your sphere of influence...follow me?

I guess just as easily I could have said read and share Jeffery Gitomer's Little Black Book of Connections or Think and Grow Rich The Richest Man in Babylon by Clason or any one of a number of other non-technique-specific books that while not perfect or having all the wisdom in the universe contained within their "can-be-read-on-the-bathroom-seat-in-4-sittings" pages, still contain a great deal of value for the great majority of people.

Or at least for those who APPLY it.

Are you saying that people want to be wealty but are unwilling to work for it and they want the wealth given to them?  That if they drink some magical can drink it is going to make them rich. If they go to a seminar or boot camp that somehow the forces of wealth and power will be  inside them from that point to eternity?

This is cruel to say but it tires me to think of all of the people who want to and never do...  Almost like they have been brainwashed by sociaty to think "You must be rich" when  their reality is they dont want to be.. If they did they would be...  And although I am a big believer in Affirmations and goal setting about the second in into your goals you should know if you are a want to or a doer...

And its okay to be who you are just stop lieing to yourself and be free... My goodness..

I just got this the other day in an e-mail:

I saw a billboard sign that said:

      NEED HELP?  CALL JESUS
      1-800-005-3787

 Out of curiosity, I did.

A guy showed up with and old truck and a lawnmower...........

You know I get people that ask me how I do what I do and I sit down and tell them how I do it including who to talk to for each step.  All they have to do is call the people on the list and do what they say and they will be in a property.  They then just go out and buy season tickets to the Houston Texans instead of buying that 4-plex that we were looking at.

When I was getting my MBA one of the classes talks about the science of incentives (like coming up with bonus plans and compensation, etc).  The pain of a loss hurts more than the joy of an achievement feels good.  In other words people will fight to avoid a negative event harder than they will strive to create a positive event.  In the USA the poor live a really nice life.  They have all the food they need, they have big screen TVs and they have free education for their kids.  The incentive to reach up is really not there.  You know what gets in the way of a great life is a good life.  What gets in the way of a good life is an ok life.  The poor in the USA have an ok life.  Guys that have incomes like mine have a good life.  But they would rather spend their afternoons picking their fantasy football leagues than looking for a good rental property to create a great life.

Well said.

Zig Ziglar: "The fear of loss cannot be greater than the desire for gain".

I also remember something similar (but worded much more hilariously) in one of the underground books I got from Gary Halbert about showing a guy making 9 bucks an hour how to put in the work to use direct mail or any of a dozen other entrepreneuerial strategies to build a pipeline to wealth...and how much more that guy too often would fight like crazy to keep from losing 50 cents an hour drop in his pay than he would go after the other.

Anyway, I hope I included the quote correctly. I used to participate in a book-reading forum and those guys were VICIOUS about "protocol"  Cool

BlueMoon

I have to admit that I am cracking up whenever I read your posts.  You do have a good sense of humor and funny analogies to compare things...

Quote 1: "I am talking about the Jesus that saved the whole world not the Jesus that mows my lawn. "

Quote 2: "If you are looking for a wife you need to know if you are you looking for big breasts, long legs or smarts.  (In my case I wanted all of it) You don’t just walk around and marry the first female that asks you." (http://www.reiclub.com/forums/index.php/topic,34489.0.html)

Keep up the funny informative posts.  Regards!
