Land Foreclosures

My father-in-law just bought 100 acres of land at 50% of the market value. He said he drove by and saw a sign. He was the first to inquire and bought immediately. I'm looking at buying foreclosed, preforclosed, or government land. Where's the best place to start? At home programs? Seminars? Research? I need info on finding property, bidding, financing requirements, who finances land purchases, etc.
Thought I would focus on land, not houses. Just getting started.

I don't buy land so can't help much there.  However, it might be worthwhile to follow the local land purchases and foreclosure auctions to see who does.  If you can hook up with one or two of these experienced folks willing to share, I would think you can learn the ins and outs much faster.
