Business or solo?

Ok, I'm a californian investor moving to Minnesota at the end of the month so my wife can continue her education. Her dad, who lives out there, wants to partner up and start a RE investing company. Anyone have any ideas on this? Should i tell him yes, lets do it.. open up a business "Company name etc" or do i tell him lets just do this solo? I'll just put him under my wing and teach him the trade? Are there any benz to starting up a business name for myself? does anyone have any clue on this subject? please let me know..
