Okay, Mike, if we're going to talk about our fantasies, our ideal country, then here's mine:

Federal gun buy-back programs initiated from every police station.  Time to clean house, folks.  Get cash for your under-used weapons!  Pay off debt!  This is immediately followed by a drop in stolen weapons (there aren't so many left in those nightstands) and consequent gun crime.

Gun owners have a mass meeting at NRA headquarters about "Let's Get Responsible".  There is unanimous agreement to get all guns licensed and annually registered.  Gun owners gladly pay an annual fee per weapon to finance the new Federal gun control laws.  The NRA then dissolves due to lack of dues-paying members.

Gun violence takes a drastic plunge.  Gang members and criminals resort to spears, clubs, knives--and discover that they ARE more fun.

Libel laws and Defamation of Character Suits start getting enforced.  Rush, Beck, propertymanager, anyone who spouts vitriol and lies get their hands slapped and maybe even a trip to the hoosegow.

However, the jails still have TV, exercise yards, baseball.  This is good, because otherwise propertymanager would have to spend too much private quality time with Bruno, his cellmate.  The oh-so-friendly one with the 20-inch neck.

A National Lottery is held to send Conservatives on a "Mellow-Out Tour" of Europe and Asia.  Conservatives visit the publicly-funded, public option well-baby clinics, hospitals and old-folks homes.  No Conservative is packing heat, since chances of getting shot at are just about nil in those countries.  Conservatives return smiling and humming "KumBaYa".  Then they head to the police stations to sell their excess guns.   "After all," says propertymanager, "I only have one trigger finger, so one'll do me!"

Sarah Palin has a revelation, and becomes a Hare Krishna.  She gives up the cold north to settle in downtown San Diego.

Rental prices everywhere triple.

I particularly like this part.  I can't help but notice that FO has yet to comment on the WORLD'S BIGGEST SCAM - THAT HAS NOW BEEN EXPOSED!!!  Talk about lies!  If there was any justice, these socialist "scientists", Barack Obama, Al (I invented the internet) Gore, and everyone else involved would be doing life in prison for their attempted scam.  This attempt to scam the American people out of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS (maybe TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS) is larger than any scam in history and should be punished accordingly!

Furnishedowner, where do you think the money comes from for these programs?  So people buy the guns with their money, only to get money back from the government which gets the money from them in the first place, and the politicians borrow the money to do it first to boot!  Great plan...

I've got to tell you that I've been thinking about FO's proposal and I've changed my mind.  I'm now 100% in favor of FO's gun buy back program.  The only thing I need to know is how much she's willing to pay.  In San Diego, they offered $100 for handguns and $200 for rifles.  I can buy Russian made Mosin-Nagant rifles for $89 each at the gun stores and there are literally thousands of them available.  I'm sure that I could get them cheaper by ordering several shipping containers directly from Russia (through a FFL, of course).  I'm guessing that I could get them for less than $50 each, shipping included.  So, FO, I'm willing to commit $100,000 RIGHT NOW to buy my first shipment of rifles and I understand that you're willing to pay me $400,000 for them (cash please - I don't trust socialists).  Immediately upon receiving my $400,000, I'll order a $400,000 shipment of rifles and you can pay me $1,600,000 for them to take them off the street = LOL!  For the third shipment, you'll pay me $6,400,000 and so on.  You can see that very quickly I'll be out of the rental property business and living on Easy Street!  Does the San Diego police department buy back guns by the ship load?

The gang bangers like that gun buy-back, too. They can do a couple of drive by murders and then turn the murder weapon in, no questions asked. After that, they don't have to worry about getting convicted of the crime because the prosecutor can't produce a murder weapon.

But that suits the true liberal who hates to see the poor victim of society get punished for what is not his own fault. Society, or food preservatives, or a drunken father, compelled him to kill, so he should be turned back loose in society and not punished.

I suspect that most illegal guns in this country have been smuggled in, in mass, and not stolen one-by-one.
