Well-done, Josh!

We get lots of traveling nurses here at our business.  They make terrific incomes and can choose where they want to live and work.  You will have a wide-open future.

Keep going Josh. You're in for a tough second half with finishing school and passing your boards. The nice thing about the medical field is that you can work nights and have the day for other ventures. I know a guy who built a successful home remodeling business while working night as an LPN. Good luck.

Hoosier,

As someone with at least four nurses in his family I can tell you this. BRAVO! You have made a fantastic investment into your future. Once you finish this schooling you will have something that NO ONE can ever take away from you. You will have learned a trade that you can go anywhere in the world and make money from it. Trust me in the next couple of years when all your friends are moving home with their parents because they can't find jobs after college you will be kicking ass and taking names.

Just beware; the most successful friend always ends up buying the cocktails. I guess there are worse things in life though.   beer

If I can give you one piece of advice though it is this. Once you are done with the actual nursing school. Take some management classes because hospital administration is where the serious money is. My next door neighbor is in administration for one of the Baylor hospitals here in Plano and I bet he easily make 200K a year.

Hoosier, You'll need a BS degree for hospital administration. Yes they make big bucks, but you'll have decide if its right for you. I'm a respiratory therapist. I've also been a Director of Respiratory Care. I didn't like the corporate side. Despite what they say in their "mission statement" their focus is on the bottom line. There are also a ton of little decisons that management makes throughout the day and they never "clock out". Even when they're home they have a beeper and can be called at any minute.. I like working with patients and the flexibility of working nights. I can do things during the day like educating myself in other areas. If you can handle working nights, you can accomplish a lot.... Good luck.

Phlem,

You make a great point about the bottom line being all important. You know I did not even know that hospitals were business until I was like 35. I just thought that they were non-profits that were there to help people. Talk about blind!!

I realize its a trickle down effect from the top.. But there has to be balance where the patient does'nt get caught in the middle.. The amount of services you recieve is directly proportional to the quality your health insurance. They won't admit it but its true.. I've seen it firsthand. Perhaps different companies operate differently, but I doubt it. They're all competing against each other..
