Pittsburgh PA real estate market

I am moving from Cols. OH to Pittsburgh PA.  Last weekend was my first weekend of house hunting.  We are looking in the N / NE (??) areas around Pittsburgh, Cranbury/Wexford/Butler areas.  I was shocked this weekend to see how much less house I get for my dollar in Pitts. vs. Cols.  Is anyone familiar with that market (I am not), and if so, any suggestions on areas around Pittsburgh that have better land values that would still be nice to live and keep my w/in 30-45 minutes of downtown?  Any advice is appreciated.  

By the way, what I'm seeing is a 200K house in Columbus S/SW would be a 300K house in Pittsburgh N.
