Serrico,
Did you get any references for a good company?
I assume you're aware of the services at usps.com for postcards and letters?
Thanks.

Since direct mail is my favorite thing, a couple of suggestions. You can get hold of your own lists from a variety of companies. One way is to look in the yellow pages under mailing list services, or you can get lists from your property appraiser's office. Then I would suggest hiring someone like a high school student or a stay at home mom to do mailings for you. That way you have more control and know that they actually got done and you can target exactly who you want to mail to. Kathy

I would just look for a local mailing house to develop a relationship with. Look in the Yellow Pages for "mailing services". Call 4-6 of them and get quotes. Pay attention to the timeliness of their response, how detailed they are, how helpful they are etc.
Good luck,
Jason

I would recommend you get a software program such as
Fortune Maker offered by Emmatek.com. You can then get a high-school student to work for you one day a week and run your mailing campaign..
Using a software program such as this, you can tag all of your mailings, do a mail-merge and have access to property title information as well. You can also choose whether you want to send a letter or postcard to all of the home owners in your area.
Best Riches,
Jeff Adam

It took me a while to find but, I am finally using a direct mail company that I am comfortable with and would actually praise. I called around and used a bunch of different companies before I found these guys.
