I have lived under socialized medicine in Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Israel and Japan.  In each of those countries care was inexpensive, available and adequate.

My family and I had no complaints.  There were differences, like the lack of privacy and under medication for pain in Japan, but basic health care was there.

That is what is NOT here. Where poverty-stricken 16-year-old Moms are dumped out of the birthing wards before they are even able to nurse their infants.  Human milk comes in on about the 3rd day postpartum, Moms and babies are discharged after 24-48 hours because IT KEEPS THE COST DOWN.  Never mind that our infant death rate is horrible.  This is just one example and it absolutely makes my blood boil.

I agree that this country excels in complicated, state-of-the-art surgery, heart and cancer care.  This country DOES NOT EXCEL in meeting basic needs of infants, children, mothers, and the elderly.

Yes, I am a Capitalist.  Trying to get ahead.  But not by standing on the backs of others.

I will continue to vote for any party/candidates that try to better health care.  This administration is working to do that.  For the first time, it's not just lip service.  How can we allow them to fail yet again?

Since this is a discussion on health care and "free medicine", I'll give my two cents. I'm seeing an ever increasing population of drug and alcohol addicts in their 20's and 30's coming to into the LTAC hospital where I work as a respiratory therapist. These people range from US born deadbeats to hispanic. These people have no job or healthcare and almost always come to us in respiratory failure and on a ventilator (respirator). The daily ventilator charge for 1 day is $900! These people often are with us for a few months at a time. We get them breathing ontheir own again, discharge them but see them back within 6 months to a year with the same issues. Then you have the long term "lifers" where they are ventilator dependendent with nowhere to go. So we keep them or transfer them to a long term care facility (which charges $380/day for a ventilator charge). They also run up a bill with expensive meds, dialysis and Physical and occupational therapy. I don't know the charge for those, but just one person on a ventilator for 1 year totals abput $365,000. That's not included the other stuff. This is all getting paid by Social security/medicare/medicaid.. One last point, when a person comes to us with actual health insurance, the healthcare company outs a cap on the amount they'll pay an LTAC, where the medicaid is an endless supply.. Sorry Propertymanager, I hope this little tidbit doesn't give you a hear attack, but it is frustrating to watch.

 Im not trying to sound condescending or arrogant when I say this,and I have no reason to disrespect your beliefs..But  being a capitalist and or looking to get ahead is a zero sum game..Im sure you know the definition of zero sum game but I will post for the others..

So how do you as the capitalist claim to be getting ahead without "standing on the backs" of others..Who do you think you buy that discounted property from?..A fallen American...Who do you think you flip that property to?..Another form of a zero sum game..You are misinformed about being a capitalist..A Capitalist *must* take advantage of an arbitrage otherwise he/she isnt a capitalist..And the only way is when real oppurtunity presents itself is to pounce on it..And oppurtunity comes from the mistake of someone else...Plain and simple..

Once again, you show a striking lack of knowledge on the subject.  This administration is NOT working to "better health care".  We already have the finest health care in the world, which is witnessed by the inflow of important people from other countries to the United States when they have serious medical problems.  Furthermore, The Chosen One claims to be taking $500 BILLION out of Medicare to help pay for healthcare reform, while at the same time using that same money to beef up Medicare.  It's all gibberish intended to confuse the American people (they got you) so that they can take over 1/6 of the economy.  This is about instituting SOCIALISM, not about improving healthcare.

I suggest that you spend some time educating yourself.  You might start with the Cloward and Piven strategy, which is the strategy that The Chosen One and his socialist comrades are following to "fundamentally transform" the United States.

Perhaps if they didn't waste so much on medicare/medicaid (see my above post) they wouldnt need $500B to fund it. There are a ton of other wastes. The biggest waste I see are the young and able bodied people that are bilking the system. They get their income from social security disability and their healthcare from medicaid. THAT is the waste. Not the cost healthcare services. Don't even get me started with the illegal immigrants.. But many of these people are also voters. A candidate promising to cut these deadbeats off the system will never see the light of day.

I can understand the outrage over Obamacare.....Cripes we spend BILLIONS every year buying wheelchairs for people that never receive them due to medicaid fraud.

Let's REALLY LOOK at what an INSURANCE COMPANY DOES...

INSURANCE COMPANIES: They COLLECT MONEY and NEGOTIATE prices...

The FEDERAL GOVERMENT: They COLLECTS TAXES and then solicite BIDS on everything from F-18 Hornets to Goverment CHEESE.....

Right now Health Insurance Companies make BILLIONS in profits every year with the MONEY they collect.

Boeing sells PLANES to private industry AND the GOVERMENT.....Why can't INSURANCE COMPANIES do that???

Provide a BASIC policy that covers CATASTROPHIC ILLNESS.  Have the Government SET LIMITS on how much INSURANCE COMPANIES can charge for it...It would be a BARE BONES POLICY.....COMPETITION would regulate how many people received it....How many people aspire to work at WALMART????  NOT MANY.....Because the PAY and the BENEFITS SUCK....If that's all you WANT out of life, that's all you're getting. a basic insurance policy that won;t BANKRUPT YOu if you have a heart attack while working for WALMART...If you want a BETTER POLICY......Earn more and find a better job!!!

This is EXACTLY how the market currently works....The better the INDIVIUALS TRAINING and SKILLS the BETTER THE JOB!!!  But even THESE folks can get SLAMMED if they lose a job for an extended period of time and can;t afford COBRA payments.  At least a BASIC POLICY would provide a NET.  The Goverment could REQUIRE insurance companies to provide that coverage and a reduced rate.

This is ALREADY done with PUBLIC UTILITIES.....Their RATES are CAPPED.  Any INCREASE must be approved by a Public Utilities commision...Basically a GOVERMENT Over site committee that REGULATES or makes the RULES.

These are RULES that the GOVERMENT has put in place....We're ALREADY sending the Goverment our MONEY.....But I have a REAL PROBLEM with putting HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of DOLLARS IN United Health's CEO's POCKET as premiums rise 20% per year.

What we have.......AIN'T WORKING......The PRIVATE END and the Goverment end.

Ive been working at ALOT of hospitals for clinicals at nursing school, and let me tell you, it all boils down to one thing.....

If were going to offer somebody something (hospitals dont have the right to refuse any patient healthcare) that makes NOTHING, its going to cost everybody else MORE.

Example?  This one guy comes in just last week and I was assigned to take care of him.  He obviously has NO money, I saw a picture of him inside his trailor stapled onto his wall.  However, this guy is CONSTANTLY on a respirator, gets 7 different medications (I passed out his meds to him), and requires his vitals taken every 2 hrs.  Let me ask you this... how can you POSSIBLY make that work?  It DOESNT!!!  All this stuff doesnt get paid for by a magical fairy made out of money.

Bottom line is, America has to make a decision, either they are going to have to deny coverage to some that cant pay, or understand the simple fact that America will be in a hole when it comes to debt and Health Care.

We offer services to people that they cant afford/will never be able to afford (they arent making much money), and that simply DOES NOT WORK, you WILL BE IN THE RED if you do this..  Its common sense... its the ONLY way it can work, its simple math.

I'd like to point out that i do support govt. programs that help people who are TRULY unable to care for themselves. My main beef is with the able bodied people who bilk the system. They're able to do it because there is too many loopholes and lack of oversight. These people are taking because the govt. is giving. The only way that can change is if the masses decide that enough is enough and it gets in the heads of the polititians before and after they're elected.

I used to run a shop selling auto accessories.It was like clockwork we sold more rims,tint,etc right after some "stimulous" came.And I know some of you will argue that proves it worked.Not in my book,instead of these deadbeats spending $3k on wheels for their $500 car.Why don't they take a trade course??I'll answer=because they know there's more to come.They have been born to expect entitilements.What a monster our govt has created,,and proposing to fix it with even more for them to abuse.Sad mentality the govt has etched in some minds(mainly the ones who are told to look for the (D) behind candidates names).Sad robot zombies fueled by "free" crap will never know their true potential.

I'm convinced at least 50% of my town's population is on sect 8.  The mentality is ridiculous here.  Just like bama said, people have to have their multi thousand dollar wheels and sound systems, but they rely on the govt for daily subsistence.  Only one third of our rentals here are not sect 8.  Just like the young lady in her mid-20s we had to evice a couple weeks ago.  Not overweight or otherwise unable to work.  But she's a pro at having kids (4) and finding gov't programs to use.  And yes she had a nicer tv than we do.  If people's priorities are all screwed up, they should live with the consequences.  This is NOT solely about healthcare.  It's about the decisions people make to get themselves in the situation they're in.  I've never tried an illicit drug in my life.  I'm very religous, but I could give a crap if a deadbeat addict is denied healthcare, housing, etc.  People have to want to help themselves.  You can't save everyone.

The Chosen One wouldn't take Chevez because Chevez is too far to the right of our Socialist in Chief.  Obama's goal is to turn the United States into an old soviet style socialist/communist/marxist state (and he's close to succeeding).  Once successful, what do you think the socialists/communists are going to do with the tens of millions of lazy deadbeats in this country?  What did Mao do?  What did Stalin do?
