I'm not opposed to welfare if it is used for the original intent: short term help for people who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own.

This is a rich country.  Children, the handicapped, and the elderly shouldn't be lying in the gutter starving to death.

But welfare has been taken over by cheats and scammers and often times the people who really could use a hand up can't get the help. So I would like to see a very thorough house cleaning.

Yes sir, I agree, not sure why folks want to stop ALL entitlements. They are very beneficial if used properly, the current system has been abused to death. But to just stop everything without a REALISTIC transition phase is even worse. There will always be some public assistance needed.

I agree about the entitlements being flat out abused.

Im saying this as a American, not a right-winger who hates the left, I am deeply concerned about the debt of our country.
