One of the things that really struck me on my trip to Washington D.C. was the RIDICULOUS, WRECKLESS, and INCOMPETENT use of our tax dollars on the police in the Murder Capital of the USA!  No, I'm not anti-police.  In fact, if you're not going to allow honest law-abiding citizens to protect themselves, you darn well better have some police to arrest all the criminals that will take advantage of the unarmed, helpless sheeple.  On the sheer number of police, Washington D.C. is a winner.  On the Washington mall and in the museums, there are cops EVERYWHERE.  In fact, I'd venture to say that there isn't much of a danger of anyone stealing Dorothy's Ruby Slippers from the Museum of American History.  To see Dorothy's Slippers, you must pass through a metal detector (manned by armed cops) and there are armed cops everywhere in the museum.  The problem is that so many cops are guarding Dorothy's Slippers that NOT A SINGLE COP WAS VISIBLE ANYWHERE ON THE METRO (subway train) during the 3 days I was there.  What WAS visible were signs that told riders to hide their electronics while on the metro because criminals were targeting people with electronics!!!  There were also announcements over the PA system in the train stations with basically the same message.  UNBELIEVABLE.

I admit that I'm not privy to the daily national security briefing, but it seems to me that having dozens of cops guarding Dorothy's Ruby Slippers and not a single cop guarding the PEOPLE on the subway is GROSS INCOMPETENCE!  At rush hour, the trains are PACKED with so many people that people are literally pressing up against each other.  It reminded me of an old Twilight Zone episode about an overcrowded earth.  Any terrorist with the IQ of a rock could kill a thousand people without even breaking a sweat and certainly no threat that the police would stop them!!!  That was SHOCKING to me!

There isn't enough money on the planet to get me to live in one of these metro areas and ride the train every day with the other cattle.  Ohio looks GREAT after seeing the freak show in Washington D.C.!!!

Wow, propertymanager you really need to get out more. A lot of people have been living in metros for years and love it a lot more than living in the suburbs and the country.  If the metros weren't an awesome place to live in some peoples minds, they wouldn't flock there...just saying.

Crime is higher in metros because the population density is also MUCH higher.

EVERYTHING you don't like about LIFE you blame on the government...really??? Come on man!!!

You call everyday commuters "cattle". So you complain that deadbeats are ruining the country, but you call decent hardworking people on their way to work, school, etc CATTLE??? Your posts are getting more warped and extreme by the minute.

I was told that police are not obligated to protect people , they are there to arrest the one who committed the crime.  Ever see a cop watch two homeless people fighting?

Actually protecting life and limb is their number one priority.

Actually, police have absolutely no duty to "protect" individual citizens and the courts have repeatedly confirmed that.  Here's just one article that discusses the issue:

http://www.disinfo.com/2010/03/the-police-arent-legally-obligated-to-protect-you/

That's exactly why I didn't see a single cop on the Washington D.C. Metro during the 3 days of my trip.  Washington D.C. is the murder capital of the USA.  The Washington D.C. Metro is a likely target for terrorists.  Dorothy's Ruby Slippers are guarded by a BUNCH or armed cops.  Yet, not a single armed cop visible on my many Metro rides - not one!  What was visible were a bunch of signs that said criminals are targeting people with electronics and warning people to keep their electronics out of sight.  So, instead of protecting the disarmed law-abiding citizens from the criminals, the cops are guarding Dorothy's Slippers and posting signs at Metro stations telling citizens to hide their electronics so they won't be a victim.  What's wrong with this picture?

The good news is that if one of the sheeple is murdered on the metro, I'm sure that the cops will show up a few minutes later to draw a chalk outline around their body and investigate the crime.  Little comfort to the family of the dead sheeple.

The crime rate is higher in metropolitan areas because most cities have a higher percentage of lazy deadbeats and criminals who are coddled by the left-leaning occupants of the cities.  Many of the big cities are also in areas with strict gun control which has been proven to INCREASE the rate of violent gun crime.

They are guarding Dorothy’s slippers because if somebody stole them the Metro would go broke.  Instead of riding that crowded Metro train everybody would just click their heels and say there no place like home and get around that way.  The upside is that there would be no more Global warming.
