RIDICULOUS!

The unemployment rate went UP to 9.9% and the REAL unemployment rate went back to 17.3%.  TRILLIONS of dollars that didn't exist have been spent by the government to create this mirage of a recovery.  Meanwhile, the socialists have exploded our debt; have piled on $150 TRILLION plus of unfunded liabilities (exactly what they're rioting over in Greece); cities and states across the USA are broke; a HUGE wave of residential foreclosures are set to hit in 2011; Europe is a train wreck; China has the mother of all housing bubbles; a HUGE tax increase is 7 months away (the expiration of the Bush tax cuts); a HUGE energy tax is directly ahead (either through cap and trade or EPA dictate), etc, etc, etc.

Give it a little time - the collapse of the USA is coming soon (2012 is my best guess).

Here's a newsflash - SOCIALISM DOESN'T WORK!

Yesterday was a fluke.

The housing market is recovering. Rates are still low.

New jobs are being added every month.

What does a huge wave of foreclosures have to do with anything? Most of the people living in those hopmes have not made a payment in months.

The USA is not collapsing anytime soon.

I'm surprised that you wouldn't understand the concept of supply and demand.  A huge wave of foreclosures will result in an even larger overhang of unsold property.  This excess supply will further decrease prices.

If you'd been out of work for months and you had kids to feed, you'd be darn glad to work for $10 a hour.

I have been out of work for a year and a half.  I have been working for my own company selling used phones on craigslist and at flea markets.  Then I sold drop-shipped merchandise on ebay.  Just recently my dropshipping idea came to a complete halt and I lost that business model.  I still refused to work as a gov't employee and chose to look for work in the private sector instead.

I would much rather fend for myself and wait it out then work as a temp gov't employee.

Here are some quotes of mostly older workers who cannot find jobs due to their age.....Very Sad

"I agree with you completely, I'm 55, been playing by the 'rules' all my life. I started working at 17, always paid my bills and taxes, saved my money instead of always buying the latest new gadgets. I had a good career, but my job was outsourced to India late in 2008. I have been unable to find a new job since. Now the overwhelming national debt, new taxes, and likely inflation will destroy my savings when I need them to live on. Anyone who thinks this economy is doing well isn't paying attention..."

"I would like to see the numbers for what age group is primarily unemployed. I along with several people in my age group (over 50) of all calibers i.e. education, experience etc. simply are not being hired. I have said along with so many others,"just get a job." In my youth I found this to be a good concept, I had always found work, and made a living holding however many jobs it took, under whatever economic problems that arouse. Now I'm not so sure.
I have had many call backs, of very enthusiastic employers, who did not know my age by resume when I interviewed they went cold very quick. This includes minimum wage jobs, where I actually saw chuckles from younger management. I also researched seasonal positions, that post average age not requirements, but averages.
I have always maintained my debt, and have no outstanding debt of any kind, I love work and have no problems that would keep me from said, but truly I believe that the last of the boomers will become a burden on the country whether we like it or not. It is truly sad that the generation, that historically has been considered one of the hardest working, experiance is going to be lost.
I understand the can of worms I have opened, and I can't wait to get all the rude comments. Just remember we went threw a time when you paid your debts, at very high interest rates, and you took care of your family first that's why many of us old working slobs are broke. Along with our pensions/investments being flushed."

robdedgar,

I agree with your assessment of the job situation.  Unfortunately, a lot of those jobs are not coming back.  You are also correct that the boomers are going to be a burden on the country - or rather the entitlements that they have worked for and been promised (and have been stolen by the government) will become a burden on the country.  Of course, it doesn't help the situation that the government is spending trillions of dollars that it doesn't have and promising more entitlements everyday that it can't possibly pay for.  Taxes are going up; government regulation and control are going up; and the government is encouraging an entire generation of lazy deadbeats who are unwilling to work.  That spells disaster for the USA!

My suggestion to you is to consider starting your own business.  I'm a firm believer that you can make a 6 figure income in just about any business IF YOU'RE WILLING TO WORK HARD.  Figure out what you want to do and do it!

Just so everyone knows, I am only 29 yrs old and thankfully do not fall into the older catagory of jobless Americans.  I feel very sorry for this group of people, (my Mom is currently working a crappy job to suffice).

I am continuing my business by doing independent agent sales.  Hopefully within the year I will hae enough saved to purchase a Subway franchise.  Anyone here own one??  I am trying to save a decent down payment to help get approved for financing.  Hopefully my veteran status will help as well.

I assume they are better because they are cheaper to purchase an agreement?  The reason I am sticking with Subway is because of brand recognition and their low failure rates.  It might be easier to find financing since they are Veteran friendly.....I hope.

My friends dad owns 5 local subways, they are all going pretty well, even in this no-job area.
