Hoosier,

You picked a great area to start in.

Some of the biggest job gains were in health care, which added 26,600 jobs in the month. That’s no surprise, since the country has continued to see an increased need for people to work in nursing homes, hospitals and doctors' offices.

This will come into play when you are ready to start investing as you will have the money to do so.

Congratulations.

A job with a nice salary enables you to obtain reasonable rate mortgages.  There is absolutely no reason why a job has to turn you into a couch potato. You still get to choose for yourself.
