Anyone in here doing wholesaling in the Chicagoland area? i was wondering if anyone could suggest where to look for a mentor. Maybe someone I can partner up with just to learn the ropes.I have done a ton of research and I am pretty sure I know what wholesaling entails in Illinois, just kind of nervous to do it on my own. Also I have started building my buyers list. So far I have about 9 cash buyers on it. Just need someone to walk me trough my first couple of deals and split the profits.

Welcome to the REI Club.  Where have you tried looking to this point?

Well I have posted some ads on craigslist but I have not gotten any responses yet. I have however succeded in posting some adds to start building a buyers list. I did look at some Investing clubs trough the REI page but they all have memebership fees. I am just hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am in Chicago but I am just now getting back into real estate. I noticed some changes had happened in the area since I had been out of the game. If you have any questions that I am able to answer, I will answer them for you.

REI Clubs do have membership fees.. are you saying they are to expensive? You have to understand the clubs needs to rent the meeting space.

As to Wholesaling, is that what you want to do full time in Real Estate? or are you simply thinking that is a stepping stone to more deals?

Most young real estate investors think all REI Clubs membership should be free

A lot of young investors are part of the "entittled generation" and believe everything should be handed to them...not all.  Some seem like pretty good kids willing to work hard.

Just my two cents.

Kdhastedt ,

As to your comment, the only reason I didn't want to pay for  REI meetings is because I live paycheck to paycheck so I wanted to focus my efforts on activities that are productive but lower in cost. At least in the begining. I am not looking to get a free ride, I know it will take a lot of hard work. Just seems to me like you forgot what it's like to be a begginer or maybe you are just too quick to judge others.

Everybody was a beginner at one time or other. The best way is to borrow money from your family, friends or whoever to get started in this business. Remember you are not going out and make $30K on the first deal like they show on television.

Yeah, 'cause when I started in Real Estate, I was already wealthy.

I was still in the Army, two kids, and going through a divorce...yeah, right, wealthy beyond my wildest dreams.

You CANNOT invest in real estate with ZERO money...the zero investment thing is a myth.  It takes a LITTLE money to make money.

...and I've forgotten nothing and I'm not judging anyone.

Keith,

My comments were a bit out of line, so I do apologize. I know most people on here are just trying to help and I do appreciate it. I know as a newbie I have a long road ahead of me and I am perapared to learn as much as possible.
