John T Reed

Good information for new and intermediate investors. And, gurus deserve bashing for selling out-dated 1980's info for thousands of dollars.

I own several of his books and have actually read them. So, I can tell you the information is very good. He gives facts, figures and numbers about different strategies that he's gotten from interviewing professional investors buying different types of deals: foreclosures, probates, etc. You're not going to find a lot of positive thinking, rah rah hype, nor wildly creative financing techniques. This is non-nonsense information on how to make money, not just acquire properties.

Now, I think the quality of the book typesetting and binding is a bit amateurish, especially considering the prices (I'm a book publisher myself).

Beware, JTR will call you out on ethical issues. He's very black and white about things that other gurus paint gray. If you are someone who likes to push the envelope of what's legal and ethical in your investing, these are not the books for you.

Considering the quality, costs, and content of most infomercial & guru courses, I'd recommend JTR books long before recommending the other junk that's out there--especially to new investors. At least JTR tells it like it is without the sugar coating and hype. Some people criticize JTR for "killing their dream" or "being negative." But then I've seen enough wreckage of the "think and grow rich" in real estate crowd to recommend JTR over anything they learned on. I'm of the mindset that most people who get into this business have no business getting into it.  They would do well to read JTR, get a sense of the work and risk involved, and then work on their credit instead of trying to scam unsophisticated sellers.

Nice review of his books.  I'm glad he tells it like it is.

I wouldn't bash think and grow rich. I'd say bash Nouveau Riche, those are the people making "investors" outta non investors. Think and grow rich more like, takes your desire and tells you to try hard, nothing so reckless as "scam people to make it to the top" ya know?

Well, I guess this man only appreciates his works and his self. John T. Reed hates anyone that does no money down deals. well, he has his own style. Btw, I have read Reed's book that includes coaching, specifically baseball and football as well as "Succeeding". Nice thread! beer
