What you’ve got wrong about banks – and how to make them work for you
If you’ve been reading my stuff for awhile, you know that banks aren’t my first choice for financing investment properties. I’d much rather get seller financing, or if that isn’t an option, work with a mortgage broker. Both of these options offer a lot of advantages for investors.

Ever go in a restaurant and see a framed dollar bill on the wall?
That’s the first dollar they ever got from a customer who was buying whatever they were selling. After all the years of dreaming and months of planning, they finally opened their doors one day and someone actually came in and gave them money! That first dollar was so precious to them that they framed it and hung it on the wall for everyone to see, to remind them of where they started.

In another piece, I busted up some of the most common myths about bankers. My hope was that once you realized that banks actually need to make loans to make money, that each bank is different, and that bankers are no better or smarter than you, that you’d feel more confident going into a bank and talking to a lender.

Even after doing this for 20 years, I’m still open to new possibilities. I’m always looking for new deals, new ideas, new things to learn.
You’ve got to keep doing this or you get stagnant. Things start to get rote, boring, stale – and you start to lose your edge. You start to slip. And that’s no good for anyone.
